About your stay
We’ve put together answers to some of the most common questions to help you quickly find the information you need.
All of our rooms are in a beautiful listed building in a conservation area. Originally a townhouse, our accommodation is located across four floors with a staircase serving all levels and unfortunately, we do not have a lift.
The front door to the accommodation is accessed via four steps, we have three rooms located on this, the original ‘ground floor’ of the house. Alternative access is available via a link corridor with the adjoining Mill on the Exe public house – there are two steps in this link corridor.
Guests with specific access requirements are advised to contact us where will be happy to provide advice and assistance.
Unfortunately, our rooms are not large enough to accommodate extra beds with the exception of cots. We do not have cots to hire but you are welcome to bring your own. If you would like a little extra space or need an extra bed for a child please book one of our attic rooms.
Additional occupants aged 3 – 15 years are charged 25% of the double room rate.
Breakfast is served every morning from 8am until 10am and is included as part of your room rate.
You can order from our breakfast menu, or please help yourself to our continental selection.
The main bar and restaurant also offer lunch and dinner. The team will be happy to reserve a table for you, just let them know. Explore our full menu here.
Check-in is from 3pm. We ask guests to check out by 10:30am on the day of departure.
There is WiFi available throughout the Mill on the Exe. Simply complete our sign-in form and you’ll have access to the internet.
Please note, this is not suited to extensive streaming or heavy downloads/uploads.
We permit dogs in a select number of our rooms. If you are planning to bring a dog, you must ensure that a Dog-Friendly Room has been booked prior to arrival.
Dog charges are £20 per dog, per stay. This charge is not included in the room rate and will be added as an additional cost on top of the accommodation rate.
Our hotel bedrooms and most public areas are pet friendly. However, as we do accommodate dogs on site, guests with allergies or sensitivities are strongly advised to notify the hotel directly in advance of arrival. While we cannot guarantee an allergen-free environment, we will always endeavour to meet individual requirements where possible.
Dogs are permitted in most areas of the hotel except the main restaurant. Please speak to the team on check-in for full details. We politely request that dogs are kept on leads at all times in public areas and are not left unattended in bedrooms during your stay.
Included in this additional rate you will find our ‘Proper Dog’ hamper complete with tennis ball, Forthglade treats, biodegradable poo-bags, and Proper Job beer for you to take away with you.
All our rooms are complete with luxury toiletries, tea and coffee-making facilities, free WiFi and a hairdryer.
Please note, there is no air conditioning in the rooms.
The Mill on the Exe has a small free-of-charge car park beside the pub, for which spaces are available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Exceptional quality of accommodation and food. Would recommend this hotel.
Accommodation, food and location with views across the river Exe were all exceptional. I don not think I could suggest any improvement. Our stay with family and friends all accommodated in the hotel was exceptional.

Very Good
Great location, food and drink combined with a bed upstairs – one couldn’t ask for more. The room was very spacious, clean and the bed was very comfy. Would recommend for a stay in or near Exeter.
